How Do You...?

keep your mail/ bills/ kids' crafts organized? ... my counter collects it all!

keep up with your laundry? ... I clearly can't.

keep your toy basket from being a toy catch-all? ... I clearly can't do this either.

keep your family from starving? having the same meals all the time? ... please do tell.

Tell me your secrets, won't you?!?!

Leave a comment and tell me what you do to make your house go 'round...

For meals: I've been meal planning this month and shopping accordingly. I think I'm saving money AND giving my family a better variety. It takes thought to plan healthy meals, but if I set aside about 20 minutes, it saves time in long run.

And laundry?... it is never-ending, but I try to complete my entire hamper in one day. Then it's not lingering in the washer for two days getting mildew:)

Hope that helps!

I do the same as Jeanne with laundry if possible. Though for me often it means starting laundry in the morning and running load after load all day. I usually get through the kids' clothes and towels one day, and do ours and sheets on the second day. The key for me is folding immediately when the dryer stops. At age five the kids learn to put their own clothes away (we hang all shirts because it's easier than folding). It makes a HUGE difference to be able to hand off that task (and no they don't always do it perfectly...but it's close enough).

I also suggest going through the mail immediately and discarding all junk mail and unneeded envelopes right away. I keep bills to be paid by my computer, and what I don't have set to auto pay, I take care of when I do my online banking twice a month.

Other than that all I can suggest is to learn to live with a veil half-down. With kids, it will never be spotless, but they won't remember how clean you kept your house. They will remember how you played with them and loved them, and the time you spent together.

(BTW - My kitchen is currently in a state of occupation by four relief maps, a soil sample (six test tubes),three crystal growing experiments, Judson's pot with two pinto beans and one lima bean growing-at a rate of about 3 inches per day!, and a paper wasp nest and larvae in a ziploc bag that the kids want to see under the microscope. And that's not even counting the "glue-station" where something is always awaiting repair).

Enjoy the kids and your husband, and accept that there will always be some stacks and some things left undone at all times. At least that's how it is here! I thank God often for an understanding husband who also manages to live with the veil half-down.

You know what? I love this blogpost. I always wonder how people do it and I can't get my head round it. Thanks for letting me know I'm normal!!!!

I don't have answers for you b/c my counter looks worse than yours, I believe my laundry multiplies over night, I've handed over the toy thing to the kids and we eat out too often!

I have learned planning our meals for the week is so incredibly helpful. I really don't know what to do with laundry. I've tried the one load a day thing and didn't like it and I've tried the save it all for one or two days and don't like it either. I just don't like laundry. If you find some great solutions please share!
